In Memory of Jan Nathan, Executive Director of PMA PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 02 July 2007
My colleague and friend, Jan Nathan, succumbed to a prolonged battle with cancer and died June 17, 2007, at the age of 68, surrounded by loved ones.

Jan Nathan was the executive director of PMA, the Independent Book Publishers Association, formerly known as Publishers Marketing Association. She tirelessly mentored thousands of book publishers. The impact of her work on the fortunes of publishers and, through them, the discourse of America is profound.

PMA president Florrie Binford Kichler, along with former PMA board member, Alice Acheson, prepared this news release to inform the organization's 4200 members of Jan's departure.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jan for the vital industry newsletter she published for nearly 20 years, the PMA Independent. Here is a reprint of that profile from 2003.

Jan Nathan, rest in peace -- yes, you really can -- you earned it!
