- About the Book
MICROCHIP MANUFACTURING
by Stanley Wolf, Ph.D.
Published by Lattice Press
MICROCHIP MANUFACTURING provides an introductory and accessible
treatment of a vital and fascinating technology: integrated circuit fabrication.
The use of color illustrations throughout is an immense aid to learning.
The book conveniently serves semester-long classes on IC fabrication
in two academic curricula:
1. Introductory courses in undergraduate, four-year engineering programs
of electrical, chemical, and mechanical engineering, materials science,
and physics. The mathematical underpinning for such courses is provided
in Appendices. At least half the problems at the end of each chapter
have been selected with such courses in mind.
2. As a basic book for two-year technician-training programs. Without
referring to the Appendices, the remainder of the material contains only
the level of mathematics that can be handled by students enrolled in
a two-year Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology program.
A 420-PowerPoint set of Foils (on CD, in PDF Format), and a Solutions
Manual for the problems, are available to all Adopting Faculty.
The text should also appeal to many Semiconductor-Industry
Professionals, especially those peripherally involved with wafer-fabs.
If you Sell Equipment, Materials, & Services to semiconductor manufacturers,
it provides an understanding of the overall picture, and how your products
fit in.
IC Designers, Product Engineers, Test & Field-Service Engineers, IP-lawyers,
Quality-Control & Reliability Personnel, Sales & Marketing workers will
all benefit from its contents.
Endorsements
"It shows how very dull this kind of textbook
has been in the past, and how much more attractive and understandable
color makes a complicated subject... This is a book that belongs on
the reference bookshelf of anyone interested in or a part of our industry!"
-- A. Braun, Semiconductor International
"The new book is indeed beautiful. The depth
of coverage is just about right... and the pictures are stunning. I'll
be using it in the Fall."
-- G. Snider, Professor, Dept of Electrical Engineering, Notre Dame University
"MICROCHIP MANUFACTURING is excellent
at explaining the manufacturing process of microchips, precisely, totally
and easily to understand, with lots of figures and photographs."
-- R. Komori, Asahi Chemical Corporation, Japan
"Awesome, Dr. Wolf ... Your Best Work Yet!"
-- J. Holm-Kennedy, Professor, Dept of Electrical Engineering, U.
of Hawaii
"This brand-new Book is the first one to be published
in full-color on IC fabrication. Its visuals are jaw-dropping, and
they make it much easier to grasp many of the difficult physical-concepts
associated with this fascinating but complex technology. MICROCHIP
MANUFACTURING would be an excellent choice for introductory Undergraduate
Courses on VLSI, or for semiconductor technician-training programs."
