After graduating from De La Salle High School in 1990 he went on to the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he graduated in 1995 with Public Relations degree. Returning to New Orleans to work in and around the metro area until 2001 when he decided to go to nursing school to prepare to take care of his aging father if necessary. About the Book

This is the unbelievable account of what happened inside Orleans Parish Prison's House of Detention in the agonizing aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. You get the story first-hand: rising floodwaters, rioting prisoners, raging fires and violence. In this heart-wrenching ordeal, Gavin Johnson shows courage and grace in getting his 83-year-old father to safety. It is the chronicle of a devastating disaster, yet it is a redemptive tale of great love and respect between father and son.
